| Massa's location, lying behind the coast with its
lush pine woods and framed by the Apuan Alps,
guarantees it a very pleasant climate: moderately
warm in winter and fresh in summer. |
|
 |
Apart from the beauty of the vast stretch of sand with its
comfortable hotels, the hinterland's historical villages and
the combination of sea and mountains, there is
"INSIEMESTATE", a rich and varied program of
cultural and light entertainment organized by Massa's local
council which attracts visitors from all over Tuscany and
the surrounding regions.
 |
|
Massa's historic center, recently restored
thanks to the combined action of the local council and
shopkeepers, is at the foot of the mountains from which its
highly reputed mineral waters rise and which, together with
the white marble, constitute one of the major sources of
wealth in the Apuan region.

The city is dominated by the Malaspina Castle, an imposing
building dating back to the 11th century. The culinary
tradition is also still very much alive and in the city's
various little restaurants it is possible to try typical
Massesi dishes washed down with the good Candia wine from
the surrounding hills through which the picturesque
"Winestreet" winds. |
